Momentum

The strength of the stock’s recent price trend versus the overall market and its sector, built from its 3-, 6-, and 12-month returns plus relative strength. Steady, strong uptrends score higher. Momentum works because trends tend to persist over weeks and months — money flows toward what’s already winning, and stocks that have been leading often keep leading in the near term. It’s the factor swing and trend traders watch most. The catch: momentum can reverse hard and fast when sentiment turns, so it’s best read alongside the fundamentals (is the business actually improving?) rather than chased on its own.
