Market Cap

Short for market capitalization — the total market value of the company’s shares, found by multiplying the share price by the number of shares outstanding, shown as millions (M), billions (B), or trillions (T). It’s the cleanest measure of a company’s size. Mega- and large-caps (tens of billions and up) tend to be steadier, more liquid, and easier to trade, while micro- and small-caps can grow and move much faster but carry more risk and wider gaps between buy and sell prices. Size shapes how a stock behaves, so it helps you set expectations: don’t expect a trillion-dollar company to double quickly, or a tiny one to sit still.
